Oh no not again. You can hear the cries all the way from Japan! Toyota has recently spoke out about its Lexus division having to recall almost 270,000 units worldwide.
138,000 of which are vehicles in the United States to fix an engine glitch. You just know there are a bunch of Toyota execs somewhere right now hoping for a Godzilla like diversion (I know, that was cheap). So any way Toyota said it would file the recall in Japan , covering 90,000 high-end sedans. Holy Paper Work, Batman!
The vehicles that are being recalled are powered by the 4.6 liter and 5.0 liter V-8 as well as the 3.5 liter V-6 engines in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, IS and LS models.
Lexus told The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) the repairs will involve replacement of the engine’s valve springs at no charge (Ah gee thanks, what swell guys free of charge I would hope so Mr. Roboto!)
The Japan recall is a tad different as it affects seven Lexus models and the Toyota Crown, a top-end sedan not sold in the US, spokesman Paul Nolasco said the Lexus models effected are the GS 350, GS 450h, GS 460, IS 350, LS 460, LS 600h and the LS 600h L. Man that’s a mouth full. I wonder what he sounded like as he read that list off.
Toyota said that faulty valve springs could trigger abnormal engine noise or idling. Hey, is Toyota shopping for parts at the Goodwill store now, what is happening? And to put more salt on the wound Toyota said the faulty springs could cause the engine to stop while it is operating! The problem was caused by contamination during the manufacturing process, Toyota said. Contamination, Really? That’s what there going with I guess?
In the United States, Lexus has received no reports of accidents or injuries related to the problem as of yet, but when this report gets out, every idiot with a Lexus who gets in a crash will be on the 5o’clock news crying about faulty springs.
The company has not stopped production of the vehicles, which are all made in Japan. Of course they haven’t stopped production of their vehicles because they know all they have to do is sit and wait for the Americans to get all googly eyed over the next big athlete cheating on his wife and we will forget all about the…who was it again?..Sorry I was watching True Hollywood story. Any who, I digress.
Fixing the faulty valve springs could cost Toyota 20 billion yen ($227.6 million), Japan’s Asahi newspaper reported.
Toyota declined to confirm the reported cost estimate for the recall. I should say so!
The recall would be the second for the luxury Lexus brand since last Friday, when Toyota told U.S. and Canadian safety regulators it was halting sales and recalling about 17,000 Lexus HS 250h hybrid sedans due to a potential fuel leak. “Ok everyone get in here who has my Car Manufacturing for Dummies book?”
Toyota acted following a U.S. government crash test that showed fuel leaking after an HS 250h was struck from the rear by a car traveling about 50 miles per hour (80 kph). Toyota’s own crash test did not show the fuel leak problem.
The automaker told dealers it had not received any reports of injuries or accidents linked to the problem with the HS 250h.
Ok so Toyota’s image and it’s sales have been hurt, but never fear Toyota! We are Americans, just give us some shiny new toys to play with coupled with a massively sexy ad campaign featuring Beyonce and we shall forget.
